Successful Commissioning: An Introduction To Developing A Health Tender (South West) (All Day)

Summary:
This one-day training course will provide an introduction to health commissioning for third sector organisations working with children and young people's services.

Description:
This training course, free to third sector organisations, is part of the Department of Health's Strategic Partner Programme. This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to bid for tenders, is unclear about the commissioning landscape and is looking for an introduction to what commissioners want and how to put together a tender.
The training will help participants to:
  • Gain a greater awareness of the children and young people's health and social care agenda.
  • Explore the context and concepts of the commissioning process.
  • Recognise what health commissioners are looking for.
  • Understand what is needed to be commission ready.
  • Gain an awareness of where to find support to work in partnership to be part of a commissioned programme.

Free One-day Conferences On Tackling Bullying In The Community (9:15AM - 3:15PM)

Over recent years, the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) has become increasingly aware of how bullying in the wider community can impact on the well-being of children and young people.
 
To support local practitioners to get to grips with the new Safe from Bullying guidance on tackling bullying in a range of community settings, ABA is organising a series of one-day conferences in each of the nine government regions.
 
The conference will give you a unique opportunity to:

  • Hear directly from DCSF about their policy and support for promoting safer communities, and from anti-bullying experts on how to develop practice and partnerships.
  • Take part in a range of practical workshops and discussions.
  • Network with other organisations and individuals who have responsibility for tackling bullying in community settings.
  • Take home useful materials and contacts (including copies of the guidance) to support your anti-bullying work.
  • Meet your ABA Regional Advisor and develop further links for the future.
 Who should attend?
  • Senior practitioners working in children's homes, youth services, extended school services, FE institutions, transport providers, play facilities and leisure services.

Description:
There will be two parts to this seminar:
Part One: Donors from Europe - people, companies and foundations: An introduction to the largest philanthropic market outside of the USA - the multi-billion philanthropic market in continental Europe. This session will cover:
The background to philanthropy in Europe.
Examples of current giving and fundraising as well as examples of current successful UK funding bids.
  • How to source donors.
  • Successful strategies for development.
Part Two: EU Grant Opportunities: This will examine the EU grants available from EU institutions and give an overview on:
  • How to locate information about the EU grant opportunities available.
  • How to apply for a grant.
  • The general principles to keep in mind when applying.
  • What happens if the grant application is successful.

The BIG network meeting of regional childrens and young people's networks will be meeting at
at Canalside, Bridgewater from 10am-4pm   

The meeting is about regional networks coming togther to celebrate the difference we can make when we focus on Enjoy and Achieve for young people. Members will get a sense of the times and feel refreshed and inspired from the speakers, the activities and the opportunity to share experiences and network with collegues.

Workforce Development Update Event (NCVYS) (All Day)

YOF/YCF Celebration Event (All Day)

DCSF, in conjunction with Government Offices for the regions, is sponsoring a series of regional events to celebrate the innovative and creative work that has been achieved as a result of Youth Opportunities Fund and Youth Capital Fund. In the South West, this is being co-ordinated in partnership with the Regional Youth Work Unit at Learning South West.  See attached draft programme

The event will be held on Wednesday 24 March, 10.30 – 15.30 at Bishops Hull House in Taunton and aims to:

Celebrate the impact of the Youth Opportunities Fund and Youth Capital Fund across the region
Share lessons on how challenges were overcome
Support you in planning how to extend the impact of the Fund in the future

 


This free event is aimed at YOF leads, Heads of IYSS, participation leads, voluntary sector networks and elected members.

This course is aimed at professionals working with children and young people who are interested in bereavement care and looking to volunteer in this much needed and rewarding area of work.

The cost of the course is £250, this is a non-profit making course and the fee is to cover our costs.  A limited number of free places are available to current Cruse volunteers wishing to work with children & young people.  All course delegates must meet the pre-selection criteria, undertake an enhanced CRB disclosure and attend a pre-course interview on Saturday 13th February 2010.  Spaces are limited to 14 on this course so please do not delay in contacting us to avoid disappointment.

The conference is for 13-19 yr olds and will consist of four workshops to help young people manage their money better now and in the future.  It's going to be held at Somerset College of Arts and Technology.

Out Of The Box (All Day)

Throughout the day we aim to cover all aspects of working with, supporting and celebrating young people and their involvement in volunteering, community action or active citizenship.  
The Information Exchange for workers supporting young volunteers.  Build links with Projects and people in the south. Lunch provided and refreshments throughout the day.
